Theater Opened in 1917 no other history available at this time. Uptown Theater Opened in 1928 and in 1929, the "Uptown" Theater was one of the first theaters in Kansas to be equipped with " talkies" (motion pictures). Opera House Currently under restoration and preservation, the Opera House opened in January 1882. The stately red brick structure with a tall four faced clock tower was a bustling site for community gatherings. In January 1898, almost 16 years after the day it opened its doors, the Opera House was ravaged by a disastrous fire. After the renovation, the Opera House has seen a wide diversity in use, such as a movie theater. In 1982 the theater closed its doors. Today the Junction City Opera House Foundation invites you to join us in the preservation and restoration of this grand structure. For donations and/or additional information, contact: Opera House Foundation, P.O. Box 1221, Junction City, KS 66441 or call (785)238-2885 Midway Drive In No history available at this time. |
