theatres throughout our state.
KHTA's goals are to preserve the
theatres as an example of an
important architectural and cultural
period in our history and to put the
buildings to practical use as a

founded in 2001 as a Kansas based
non-profit organization dedicated to
the exhibition and preservation of
independent and classic cinema. As a
premier cultural and educational
event in greater Kansas City, the
Kansas International Film Festival
stands alone as a movie purist’s
delight, featuring film screenings
in the nation’s premier arthouse and
classic film screening venues. The
Kansas International Film Festival
attracts local, regional, and
national work, recognizing visiting
filmmakers and screen personalities,
with the intention of increasing
public awareness of independent and
classic cinema as a cultural,
economic, and educational asset.

The Prairie Connection
With a mission to “preserve the history, art & culture of the prairies
for future generations.” At the present time six historic buildings
owned by The Balmer Fund in Harper County are in some phase of
rehabilitation. For the first time in the history of the region, legal
help was sought by The Balmer Fund and two early historic buildings have
been saved, not razed. They are currently trying to raise enough money
to roof the Prairie Arts Theater. Please take a minute and stop by The
